Phone anxiety: let Lucien make the call and send you the answer in writing
If calling a business makes you anxious, you can write what you need instead. Lucien makes the call, talks to the person and sends back the answer, a short summary and the transcript. You never have to speak or listen to the call.
Lucien is an AI phone assistant made by AskLucien. It works on the web, on iPhone and on Android. It is not a health or therapy service: it takes practical phone calls off your hands.

Calls support 82 languages. The app interface is available in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Chinese, Japanese, Polish, Arabic, Korean, Turkish, Greek, Romanian and Czech.
How it works when you don’t want to talk on the phone
Everything stays in writing on your side.
- You type the request in your own words, the way you would write a message.
- Lucien shows you the plan: the number, the questions it will ask and the cost estimate. Nothing is dialled until you approve.
- Lucien makes the call. It says it is an AI assistant calling on your behalf, so nobody expects you to come on the line.
- You read the result when you are ready: the answer, a short summary and the full transcript.
Call the dry cleaner on Rue Oberkampf and ask whether my suit will be ready by Thursday. The ticket number is 4471.
Calls it handles well
- Booking or moving an appointment with a doctor, dentist, hairdresser or garage. See appointments.
- Booking a table at a restaurant. See restaurant reservations.
- Asking about opening hours, a price or whether something is in stock. See price and availability checks.
- Getting a quote from a plumber or another tradesperson.
- Asking a general question to a company’s customer service. See calling customer service with AI.
- Passing a message to a friend or a family member and bringing back their reply.
Why a written result helps
You read the answer when you are ready, as many times as you need. Nothing depends on remembering what was said on the phone.
The transcript shows exactly what Lucien asked and what the other person said, so you can check times, prices and names before you act on them.
If an answer is incomplete, you can send Lucien a follow-up request instead of calling back yourself.
Calls you will still need to make yourself
- Calls where the business must check your identity, such as your bank, your phone operator or any account with a password or security questions. Lucien never pretends to be you.
- Calls where you need to decide something live, during the conversation.
- Paying by card over the phone.
- Emergency calls. Call the emergency services yourself.
- Long, open-ended conversations, such as a complaint that needs negotiating.
For those, a person you trust or a live phone translation app may suit better. See other ways to handle a call.
What it costs
Lucien runs on prepaid credits. A 3-minute call to a French landline is about 390 credits, which is about 0.80 € on the 10 € pack. The app shows the estimate before every call and the final charge afterwards. See the pricing page for other destinations.
New accounts get 600 welcome credits when they save a card, enough for a short call to a landline in France, Germany or Italy. They are valid for one calendar month.
Questions and answers
- Will the person know it isn’t me?
- Yes. Lucien introduces itself as an AI assistant calling on your behalf. It does not imitate your voice or pretend to be you.
- Do I have to listen to the call?
- No. You read the result when the call is over: the answer, a summary and the transcript.
- Can Lucien call customer service for me?
- Yes, for general questions that do not need your identity checked. If the line asks for a password, a date of birth or a security code, you will need to call yourself.
- What if nobody answers?
- You see the attempt in your history and decide whether to try again. An unanswered attempt can still use credits.
- Can it call a friend or a family member?
- Yes. Lucien can pass a message to a person and bring back their reply.
- Can I write in one language and have the call in another?
- Yes. Write in your own language; Lucien can hold the call in any of its 82 languages and translates the result for you.
